SUSTAINABILITY POLICY

Updated: 05/2022

INTRO

In 2022 the importance of sustainability is no longer an ambiguous message. Most companies and individuals will be aware of the necessity to evaluate their own actions and policies to find a strategic environmental solution which works for them.

By monitoring our supply chain, carbon footprint and waste management Chaos Theory has a unique sustainability policy which is clearly demonstrable, giving our clients peace of mind to focus on their own actions.

BE PART OF THE SOLUTION

PRODUCTION

MATERIALS

All the materials we source are re-usable, recyclable or (in the worst instance) biodegradable. We take care to look at processing methods, product miles and manufacturing by-products. We strive to use as many recycled and recyclable products as possible, looking for sustainable innovations on standard build materials and championing new products. Where recycled products are not always appropriate we look to ethical suppliers (for example FSC timber, fair trade products and second hand marketplaces/charity shops). Where possible we look to hire from prop, drape and furniture houses; supporting the return and re-use industry in events. We will never actively source materials which are both non-recyclable and non-biodegradable.

RECYCLE / REUSE

We aim primarily to reuse all of our production materials, scenery and props wherever possible. Where this is not achievable we work to the following material recycling systems:

  • Wood products are ‘shredded’ for re-use in particle boards and animal bedding.
  • Plastics are sorted and recycled through Veolia waste management services.
  • Metals are recycled through EMR recycling systems.
  • Paper and Card is recycled to packaging material and cardboard products.

DONATE

Props, furniture, fabrics and electricals which cannot be recycled or reused by us are donated for reuse by others. We give to charity shops, craft workshops and furniture donation centres. Where there is clear returnable value we will sell online, these projected return costs allow us to keep prices as low as possible to our clients whilst avoiding unnecessary waste.

PROCESSES

LOGISTICS

With careful planning we intend to minimise our carbon footprint by using size-appropriate vehicles and drivers trained in fuel-efficient driving. Our team includes qualified and experienced transport managers and logistics operators; therefore we are able to ensure minimal unnecessary mileage leading to lower fuel consumption, transport costs and pollution. We monitor developments in electric and bio-fuel commercial vehicles and hope for a feasible transition toward these alternatives in the near future.

ENERGY

We use generators fuelled by renewable energy. We believe solar generators are the future for site power and support this shift.

PEOPLE

TEAM

Our values and principles are at the core of all we do. The Chaos Theory team work to clear and achievable sustainability practices but are also encouraged to better them through an ongoing search for sustainable suppliers and greener processes.

TRAVEL

To reduce unnecessary travel we encourage our team to work from home and work remotely wherever possible. We hold meetings, share designs and collaborate using online platforms. We offset the carbon emissions created by our teams travel, both day-to-day and event specific, by 110% making us carbon positive. This is accredited by Earthly who support global initiatives with habitat creation and biodiversity protection projects as well as social and community engagement schemes.

FRIENDS

We consciously seek to collaborate with those who share our principles. Our eco-friendly web host plants four trees a month to offset the carbon footprint of the Chaos Theory website. Our business cards are printed on recycled board and our uniform is made by Salvage who ethically manufactures clothes from 100% recycled organic cotton and recycled plastic bottles.

IF YOU SEE THINGS THE WAY WE DO, GET IN TOUCH, MAYBE WE COULD BE FRIENDS.
